No Other Name

Peter told his captors, “...by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth...this man stands here before you whole...Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:10, 12).

Jesus Christ is the only BEGOTTEN Son of God (Jn. 3:16). All other people descended from Adam and Eve, who were created by God (Gen. 1-2). But Jesus was not created (Jn. 1:1-3). No other religious leader issued forth directly from God.

Jesus Christ is the only SINLESS person who ever lived. All the rest of us commit sin (Rom. 3:23). Jesus was tempted like we are, but never sinned (Heb. 4:15). No other religious leader in history was sinless.

Jesus Christ is the only SACRIFICE for our sins. Jesus suffered the death penalty for our sins (Rom. 6:23; 5:6-8; 1 Jn. 3:16; 2:2). Because He obeyed even to the cross, God gave Him “the name which is above every name” (Phil. 2:9). No other religious leader ever gave his life as a sinless sacrifice for our sins.

Jesus Christ is the only VICTOR over death! He raised others from death. Then, when His work on earth was done, He allowed evil men to kill Him. He was buried, then raised Himself to life on the third day by the power of God (Matt. 17:23; Jn. 10:18; 11:25). No other religious leader was victorious over death.

Jesus Christ is the only HEAD of His church. He is the builder of it (Matt. 16:18). The church is His spiritual body (Col. 1:18). To truly be His church means following His teachings (2 Jn. 9). No other religious leader has the right to be head of His church.

Are these true of any apostle, “saint,” or other man? (See 1 Cor. 1:13). Should we take honor away from Christ by giving men’s names to the church? See Rom. 16:16. Christ should “have the preeminence” in our daily life, in the church, and “in all things” (Col. 1:18).
