Foreknowing Your Future
We
make big plans. We tell people what we will do. But something is wrong.
Something is missing.
“Come
now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend
a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit’; whereas you do not know what
will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears
for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the
Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that’ ” (Jas. 4:13-15).
They
presumed to foreknow next year, but did not know what they would do today
or tomorrow! Could they even sell anything? Would they make a profit? Would
they even be alive next year — or tomorrow?
Youth
sees a long road ahead, but age sees calendar pages blowing ever swifter in the
wind. Like rising steam, we are briefly seen, then vanish. Our one life here is
soon gone, and we go to be judged (Heb. 9:27).
Are
you ready? The present is a gift. God has not promised you another day. When He
made today, He included you. Are you including Him and His will?
You
cannot foreknow your tomorrow, but you can foreknow your eternity! Believe
in Christ, obey His gospel, and remain faithful to Him (Mk. 16:15-16; Rev.
2:10). Then you can “...know that you have eternal life…” (1 Jn. 5:13)!
